Shane Mayer Only purchase if bitter is your favorite flavor. As expected, the chocolate was ultra dark and smelt divine, but upon the first bite, it was far more intense than I could have imagined. I LOVE dark chocolate and often welcome the bitterness as an accent and contrast to the sweetness, but this chocolate is the exact opposite. The sweetness is an accent and contrast to the bitterness to the point where it doesn't really taste like chocolate. This is not a hyperbolic statement; my mother, brother and I are in agreement that it tastes like "not chocolate". I imagine this is what it would taste like to eat a raw cocoa bean.
This is not to say that this chocolate was badly made. I can see that it was crafted with care and love, and that it DOES live up to the description as "our most intense" chocolate. This one item is not representative of this store and other dark chocolates such as the "Dark Horse" and "Fleur de Sel" are excellent. If you want to try this chocolate, go for it, however, please proceed with caution.
